FAMILYTREE

The holidays are just around the corner. I found the recipe below in the AJC last week and couldn't wait to try it. This sounds perfect for cocktail or dinner parties.

VODKA TOMATOES

1 pint grape or cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup vodka (not the cheap stuff)
3 tablespoons coarse sea salt
1 tablespoon lemon pepper

Prick each tomato 5 or 6 times with a skewer. Place the tomatoes in a small bowl and pour the vodka over them. Soak the tomatoes in the vodka, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours or overnight.
To serve, place the tomatoes in a serving bowl. In a separate bowl combine the salt and seasoned pepper. Serve with toothpicks with the salt mixture on the side.

**I also made up a batch using green olives. YUMMY.

OPT:(Just to give it a ^Belle^ twist: Use flavored vodka, you could also add a splash each of lemon juice, dry sherry,Tabasco sauce, plus a sprinkling of celery seeds.)

That's all for now. I haven't been around the stream much the past 3 days, but I am back home now and have a lot of catching up to do.

Later Ya'll....^Belle^

 FOR THE RECORD:The "Y" Word

Once again I have received a PM from a reader that is offended and has verbally taken me to the woodshed over my ".....continued use of the word 'Yankee' in a mean spirited way that screams bitter gall". They went on to say I should just go ahead and post a photo of a rebel flag on my blog.

This offended PM sender has assumed that because I am a white Southern woman that I must certainly be a card carrying, rebel flag flying racist. I'm not saying those kind of people don't exist. Sadly, they do. But I wasn't raised that way. I was raised to respect ALL people be they white, black, brown, orange or purple!

I am not going to rehash the Civil War here, but I will say that my Daddy's family has been in this country since the 1500's. 3 relatives fought in the American Revolution under George Washington. During the war between the states he had kin folks on both sides,1 of which was a Major in the Union Army.

Sure there is teasing that goes on between the North and South. But understand this: The man I refer to as The Yankee is the man I am in love with. I don't love him because he is a Yankee (I love him in spite of it....sorry....couldn't resist), the reasons are far too many to list. Yes, he is a Yankee... So what? He talks fast, and pronounces the "ing" and speaks different, and yeah, he even walks like a Yankee with the addition of a Marine Corps stride.

He is not offended when I call him a Yankee. Or even when I call him a Damn Yankee from time to time. And,I'm not offended when he states that he is here in the South to claim everything they left after the war....starting with me. (Claim away Baby...Claim Away...). To be totally honest, I kind of like it.... although I will acknowledge that he should be selective when making such claims while in the company of Southerners.

So, PM sender, don't worry about The Yankee being offended by me. I can assure you that he is a big boy capable of taking care of himself and standing his ground. Plus....he has been ^Belled^.....and I guess I have been *Yanked*....

Further more, don't make assumptions about me and the kind of person I am. I regret that you were offended. It is never my intention to offend anyone. But since you are, then perhaps you shouldn't float to my side of the stream.

Believe me, in my world, the North and South get along just fine and Yankee Doodle Dandy!

Later Ya'll....^Belle^
