INSIDE THE FLAME

WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?

You Are A Vampire
You have a real thirst for bliss, and you consider yourself a true hedonist.
And you're not afraid to walk alone in life, if it means getting what you truly crave.
You truly enjoy entrancing people. Not to mention the ensuing pleasures of the flesh.
Your tastes have been called decadent and bizarre. You usually give in to your temptations, no matter how primal

Your greatest power: Your flawless ability to seduce and charm

Your greatest weakness: Human flesh

You play well with: Werewolves

Werewolves....?

Later Ya'll..^Belle^

I hope it was worth it.

I hope the gain was worth what you have LOST.

 Mary and Olen

Mama K was my daddy's mother. She was born January 14,1900, just days after the turn of the century and died 103 years,8 months and 2 days later.

She gave birth to 10 children. 9 of those survived. She out lived her husband of almost 73 years and 3 children. By the time the third child died, her mind was too far gone to realize it. Perhaps that was a blessing. Shortly after it was decided that she could be best cared for in the nursing home.

She had good days where she would remember some or all of us who came to visit, and bad days where she didn't even remember her name.

Papa K had passed away in November of 1986 at home, taking his final breath of life in her arms. She was 86, nearly 87 at the time, and I can still see and hear her in my mind, standing over his casket, patting his hand saying over and over, "My Lover is gone.....my lover is gone..."

In the years after his passing, we would sit in the living room and she would take his photo down from the wall, telling me that when it was her time to go, she knew that Papa K would come for her.

MAMA AND PAPA'S HOUSE

The news arrived on October 11, 2003 that she was going down hill fast. I raced to the nursing home to find a host of relatives saying their goodbyes to our family matriarch. She took a turn for the better the next day.

October 16,2003 was a Wednesday. I had intended on going to the nursing home to check on her earlier in the day but didn't make it and decided to go on Thursday.

Around 7:00pm, this urgent feeling that I should not wait, but go ahead to the nursing home took hold of me. My son, The Baby, went also.

We sat with 2 of my aunts at the end of her bed, talking, strolling down memory lane. Her breathing was labored and loud. I held my breath each time she inhaled, waiting for the exhale.

45 mintues after arriving, she opened her eyes and was mouthing something. My aunts leaned in closer.

"Mama....what are you saying?" They would ask gently while brushing back her hair of gray.

I watched her mouth as she repeted it again and something caught in my chest and tears began rolling down my cheeks.

"I know what she said", I replied trying to control the emotion in my voice.

"What?" They asked in unison.

"Olen"

The room grew very quiet. They had heard her say many times that Papa K would come for her.

"Mama......Mama....do you see Papa.....is he here...?" My aunt Margie asked.

She nodded her head slightly.

"Olen........Ol....."

She died with his name upon her lips.

There was a period of silence, only a few seconds long, but it felt much longer. I felt a warmth and glow in the room. Some people have told me in the years since, that I just imagined the warmth and glow. I didn't. Love was present in that room, even in the final moments of a life. 2 lovers were reunited, never to part.

 Coming Out Of The Dark

I had one of the best all around weekends I can remember in a long, long while. Instead of focusing on the ever present "time warp" situations, I reached a point last weekend, where I was able to let it go. YIPEE for me!

For months, I have felt so mentally and emotionally tied up in knots, and held hostage by feeling, fears and insecurities. I don't want to be premature in my celebration, but you take your victories when and where you can.

Saturday was a beautful day here in "Sweet Home Alabama".I opened up the windows and let the fresh, crisp fall air blow through the house. Something about the day, connected me with the Saturday's of my childhood.

Mother worked full time, Monday-Friday, as office manager at the business owned by her, daddy and my uncle. Saturday was house cleaning and shopping day. After a large breakfast, Daddy and my brother would head off, first for haircuts, followed by shooting the breeze with the locals before returning home for an afternoon of yard work.

Meanwhile, music filled the house through the stereo system. Sometimes she would pull out a stack of LP's, Jim Reeves, Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and Elvis would fill the air.

Usually around 2:00pm the house cleaning was finished and we would get dressed for a trip into town for "groceries". No Wal-Mart then, and all food items were purchased at "The Pig", otherwise known as, Piggly Wiggly. All food items that is except for meat. A side of beef was purchased every year from Granddaddy Campbell that would feed us through the year.

Most Saturday nights we went out to eat as a family. Usually with friends, but my favorite times were when it was just the 4 of us. Returning back home just in time to catch all of The Carol Burnett Show.

That is very much where my mind was yesterday as the air blew through the windows, mixing with the Pine-Sol and the scent of laundry in the wash.

At kick off time, I turned the radio on and listened to Eli Gold and Kenny "The Snake" Stabler do the play by play of the Alabama vs Ol' Miss game. Another exciting one that came down to the wire, as I piddled and puttered in the kitchen cleaning out the cabinets.

The nip in the air said that it was time for a batch of homemade chili, which I assembled and put in the crock pot. The rest of the afternoon flew by with lively phone conversations filled with laughter.

A beautiful vintage 50 carat crystal ring caught my eye on ebay earlier in the week. My initial bid stood until around 5:00pm, when it caught another bidders eye as well. I was still the winning bidder with 3 hours and 50 minutes to go,though, I did have a feeling that in the final minutes of the auction, I needed to be prepared to defend and win.

I logged on to ebay with 30 minutes left to go in the auction, refreshing the page every few mintues. My bid stood until the last 4 mintues, when the price started going up. I knew I had to fly into action and increase my bid. Which I did 2 times and WON!

A trip down to the river later that evening for some good ol' down home, "pickin' and grinnin'", was just what the doctor ordered to top off what had been a very good day.

Plans had been made earlier in the week for a trip to B'Ham with Princess,Trooper Junior, Angel and myself. I looked forward to spending time with them, just not the shopping part.

Princess and I, as a rule, cannot shop together. We have 2 totally different styles. She likes to stop in EVERY store and look at EVERYTHING. On the other hand, I am pretty much a get it and go shopper. Unless I am browsing at an antique mall or thrift store that is. There are very few people that I can actually shop with, in fact, I can only think of 1.

Princess doesn't like to shop with me anymore than I like to shop with her. Trooper Junior takes after his shopaholic mother and will hang in there as long as she does. Angel, is a chip off of the "Me-Ma" block, so therefore, it was determined before leaving that, Angel would be in my care.

Once inside the Galleria, we parted ways. Trooper Junior and Princess went one way, while Angel and I went another. I did very little shopping and a whole lot of strutting around showing off my beautiful granddaughter. It made my day when a lady remarked to Angel:

"You look just like your mommy".

I suppose I could have told her I was the "Me-Ma", and not the mommy...but....I didn't want to.

Anyway, it was a good weekend to come out of the dark.

Later Ya'll...^Belle^
